Mariposa Museum Annual Gingerbread House Contest & Exhibit

Did you know that the first known recipe for gingerbread traces all the way back to Ancient Greece (around 2400 BC)? It’s true! It turns out the story of how gingerbread and gingerbread houses came to be is “spiced up” with a healthy measure of interesting history, cross-cultural exchange, and the contributions of immigrants. (Read more from here.)

The Mariposa is commemorating the vital role that food and cooking play in culture and in bringing people together with our 3rd Annual Gingerbread House Contest & Exhibit. Bake with your kids, your parents, your spouse, your friends… get together and bring your gingerbread creation to the Mariposa between now and 5pm on December 13th to be entered into the contest!

Contestants may choose to create a more traditional entry or let your imagination (or love of world cultures) run wild. Prizes will be awarded to winners in multiple categories. This year, as part of our collaboration with ABLE NH, we challenge gingerbread architects to add components that make houses accessible and inclusive for people of all abilities (a special prize will be awarded in this category!).

Contest entries will be on display at the Mariposa for visitors to see.

Enlist family and friends to join your baking team (or start their own) on Facebook!
