AT HARRIS CENTER: Groundbreaking Conservation in Eastern Nepal
Saturday, January 26 | 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
This event will take place at the Harris Center for Conservation Education in Hancock (83 Kings Highway, Hancock, NH)
From our friends Scott Hecker and the Harris Center for Conservation Education:
Come meet Rajeev Goyal and Priyanka Bista, the leaders of one of the most ambitious conservation projects in the world. Three years ago, this young couple founded KTK-BELT to establish a 250-km biodiversity corridor of protected lands and learning centers (“Vertical University”) in eastern Nepal, spanning from the low-elevation Koshi Tappu Wildlife Sanctuary to the top of Kanchengunga, the third tallest peak in the world.
At six different elevations, KTK-BELT protects iconic and endangered fauna and flora, including snow leopards, red pandas, pangolins, rhododendron forests, endangered birds, crocodiles, and dolphins. The project has attracted international attention for its success in working with local and indigenous cultures and providing new educational opportunities for girls and women.
2 p.m. at the Harris Center. For more information, please contact Scott Hecker at (603) 562-7119 or by email.
