Fabien Truong: “Radicalized Loyalties: Becoming Muslim in the West”

Friday, February 8 | 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Fabien Truong: "Radicalized Loyalties: Becoming Muslim in the West"Fabien Truong is a French sociologist, university professor, and author of a book which came out in Europe last year and is just now being released in the U.S. “Radicalized Loyalties: Becoming Muslim in the West” describes Fabien’s work with a group of young Muslims in a Paris suburb just prior to the Charlie Hebdo and kosher supermarket shootings in January 2015. A shadowy acquaintance of this group is Amedy Coulibaly, the French Malian who carried out the supermarket attack that killed four people and a close friend of the Charlie Hebdo shooters.

The book suggests that the “radicalization” of young Muslim men in France and other European and western countries is less a factor of religion than of a matrix of social and economic forces and life circumstances that society would do well to understand.

Co-sponsored by the French Embassy in the U.S.
