NEW EXHIBIT OPENING: The Big Book: Pages for Peace

Wednesday, July 11

The Biggest Book in the World about Peace – Inspiring a New Generation of Peacemakers
On Exhibit at the Mariposa – Opening July 11, 2018

July 11-Dec. 31, 2018

The Mariposa is excited to bring the Big Book: Pages for Peace to the Monadnock Region starting July 11!

The product of twelve years of work by members of a middle school writers’ club in Groton, MA, this project was born from the simple conviction that young people CAN make a difference in helping to create a more peaceful world. The result – the Big Book – is inspiring:

  • It is the BIGGEST book the world about peace, with over 1,000 pages, each measuring an incredible 12 feet tall by 10 feet wide.
  • It includes thousands on contributions – from veterans, religious leaders, dignitaries, teachers, artists, writers, grandparents, and youth around the world – addressing questions including “What have YOU done to help create a more peaceful world?” and “What can kids do to help create a more peaceful world?”
  • Contributors include Nobel Laureates such as the Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela, and President Jimmy Carter, along with Dr. Helen Caldicott, Mother Teresa, Maya Angelou, Senator Ted Kennedy, and Pete Seeger.
  • The completed book has been displayed at the JFK Library in Boston, the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, and the Civic Center in Providence, Rhode Island.

The Big Book represents a highly accessible, multi-dimensional teaching tool to engage audiences across all age groups in thinking constructively about peace and conflict issues, and in formulating their own ideas about how to contribute to a more peaceful and sustainable future.

Come visit starting July 11, or call 603-924-4555 or email education@mariposamuseum.org to inquire about booking a summer camp visit or field trip to see this special exhibit.
