Migration is Beautiful at Lakefalls Lodge in Stoddard
Join us on Friday September 15, 5:30-8:00 pm, at Lakefalls Lodge in Stoddard, for a fun evening of music, cocktails, finger foods from around the world, and informal conversations with first generation immigrants. In a celebration of migration, and all immigrants have contributed, we are very intentionally "profiling" (in a good sense) 10 of our neighbors who've come at very different times, from different places and for different reasons to the US, from Cambodia, Bhutan, Finland, Zimbabwe, Ukraine, Quebec, India, Syria, Latin American and Somalia. The Finnish woman came after WWII, others very recently. Some are refugees, others came for economic opportunity or to be with someone they love. We hope to show that "immigrants" are "us" and that their stories are just as varied as we all are. We want to offer opportunities for guests to have conversations (no speeches) and let our profiled immigrants know we’re glad they’re here.
This celebration of migration, and what individual immigrants have contributed, continues the work the Mariposa has done over since its founding 15 years ago, demonstrating how immigration enriches us all, and is something to be applauded, not feared.
Tickets are $50 each in advance, $55 at the event benefitting the work of the Mariposa Museum and World Culture Center. Advance reservation encouraged as capacity is limited.
We hope to see you there!
