Eve Kodiak
Eve Kodiak, M.M.

Eve Kodiak, M.M., is a licensed Brain Gym® Consultant. She has also taught, performed, and composed music for most of her life. Trained in Dalcroze, Orff, Music Together, and Suzuki, Ms. Kodiak came to the practice of kinesiology with the understanding of how the combination of music and movement can increase the effectiveness of both. Rappin' on the Reflexes is the first of her collections. The next, Moving With the Masters, combines developmental movement narration with the piano music of Bach, Beethoven, Bartok, Byrd, and Schumann, and will be available before the end of 2004. She is also working on a new piano method for children.

Rappin' on the Reflexes has been created for easy use by teachers, parents, practioners, and anyone else who works with children, says Kodiak. It can be used informally at home, as part of an office visit, or as school curriculum for increasing academic performance and enhancing social interaction. Written for all ages, some songs will appeal mostly to young children; others, especially the raps, can move right on into high school and beyond.

Eve Kodiak, from Temple, NH, gives workshops and lectures internationally on music and kinesiology. You can reach her on the web at www.evekodiak.com.

Knowles sings songs of Holy Mary and Mary Magdalene, of Moorish babies and Sephardic brides, of mourning, and of pilgrimage. For more information visit www.nancyknowles.com.

"The eloquence could not have been improved upon…the soprano Nancy Knowles gave a vocal image of the "heavenly queen" in Royne Celestre -sturdy, compassionate, serene." —The New York Times

Jason Latham
Jason Latham

Born in Arizona, Jason says he always approaches his music through a western folk or cowboy ballad style, be it bluegrass, rock or anything else. "I call it flatland, with a bit of Green Chile, you know, Mesquite-smoked folk." Drawing from a rich tradition of country music and cowboy songs, his music features the dobro, a resonator guitar played with a slide and held flat on the lap. Karyn Levitt
Karyn Levitt

Karyn Levitt is a singer/actress who sings everything from operatic arias to cabaret, swing, jazz, and rock and roll. Drawing on her rich and studied training in theater and music, Karyn designs unique cabarets. Classical sonnets, contemporary monologues, jazz standards, art songs, and original pieces combine in unexpected ways to give you an experience you won't forget. "Lyrics by Shakespeare" is a remarkable celebration of the Bard's poetry and prose. Some of his greatest speeches are interwoven with his most beautiful sonnets in an unforgettable tapestry of words and music. The sonnets enter the 21st century as contemporary songs: from pop to Broadway, from classical to blues, tango, klezmer, and even country western. The music, composed by Leslie Hitelman (pianist), becomes the vehicle for exploring Shakespeare's meditations on time, immortality, love, and other metaphysical themes. CD's of "Words by Shakespeare" are available from her for $15 plus $3.50 p&h. For more information write camino_real@hotmail.com or visit http://royalroad2000.com.

Denis Liddy

Denis Liddy

Denis Liddy, one of Clare's finest fiddle players, hails from a family heavily involved in traditional music, singing, and dance. In fact, the Liddy clan is synonymous with traditional music in Clare. His commitment and respect for the tradition is unmistakable and demonstrated in every note he plays. The rhythm and lift Denis has acquired from the years of playing for dancers is ever evident. His music is filled with vigor, energy and the beauty of traditional Clare dance music. He has deep roots in the Céilí tradition from when he was a teen. The Liddy family group known as Shannonside Céilí Band formed in 1985, still play occasionally to this day.

Denis loves ceili bands and now plays with the Turloughmore Céilí Band, who recorded "The Bee's Wing" CD in 2001. As well as being an accomplished fiddler, Denis is a renowned teacher of traditional Irish music. Under his guidance, the Barefield Céilí Band has won All-Irelands in '98, 2000 and 2001. Many members of the group have performed on stages around the world. Denis is ensuring a brilliant future for both ceili and traditional music through his teaching and leadership in County Clare.

Dermot Lernihan from Ennis in County Clare is an internationally-known accordion player. His box playing on the legendary "Fisherstreet" 1991 recording is outstanding and his repertoire of tunes is second to none, according to fellow player Denis. Ennis traditional musicians are renowned for their virtuosity and prowess in the traditional realm and Dermot has been at the epicenter of this musical clan since he was a youngster growing up in the heartland of "trad". His influences are diverse but the sources of his music are the old musicians of Clare that can trace their music back through the ages.

Victor Lois sculpture
Viktor Lois

Viktor Lois' sculpture is not only visually amazing, but it also moves and makes sound. Lois was brought up in Tatabanya, one of the industrial strongholds of Hungarian socialism, amongst waste machines and wreckage. Lois' oeuvre reflects the fast-paced obsolescence of creations of the Industrial Revolution; machines and prototypes are discarded in perfect condition. "Lois' oeuvre is machine. He endows cold machines with passionate artistic life and reincarnate them into sculptural musical instruments. The instruments have three aspects: first they are like motionless sculptures, then they start moving (sometimes giving off light), then they become mobile and finally they make sounds…" (1992 critic by Konkoly Gyula)

Lois' work is exhibited and performed frequently in major museums and galleries in the US, Asia and throughout Europe (such as Austria, Germany, USSR, France, Netherland, Serbia). His work is in the permanent collection of the Contemporary Art Museum in Budapest; and a building in the compound of the Mine Museum in Tatabanya is dedicated solely to him, which houses more than 70 pieces of Lois' work. Every year his band TundraVoice which plays soley on his sculptural musical instruments is one of the most unique features of the Budapest Music Festival. In 1993, he represented Hungary in the 45th Venice Biennale.
