Modal Music from Crete with Ross Daly and Kelly Thoma

Greece-based Ross Daly and Kelly Thoma will play a special concert at the Mariposa, performing as a quartet with musicians Tev Stevig and Michael K. Harrist of Çeşni Trio.

Daly and Thoma are masters of the Mediterranean lyra, a bowed fiddle with more than a dozen sympathetic strings. Their modal music (music based on tones rather than scales) transcends borders, weaving together traditional sounds from a region stretching from West Africa to western China.

Daly has spent his life exploring the possibilities and connections in modal music, recording and performing all over the globe. Daly and Thoma played at Carnegie Hall in 2015, and their new double record release Lunar has spent several months in the top of the Transglobal World Music Chart.

Tickets are $20, Mariposa Members $15. Click below to purchase online or call the Mariposa front desk at (603) 924-4555.
