The Mariposa Museum in Peterborough, NH
The Mariposa is a museum of human understanding. Originally a museum of folk art, the Mariposa now also explores human experience and culture through a range of media and in a more contemporary context. Exhibits for all ages may examine a region of the world or cultures in transition, multiculturalism in the U.S., or an individual experience, all with an eye to understanding a diverse world and fostering greater compassion, understanding, and peace.
The first floor of the Mariposa Museum features a reception area, gift shop, and "Inventing Room" for kids (of all ages) with a library of stories from around the world, cabinets of crafts and games to try, hands-on puppet theatre, and child-sized play kitchen. On the second-floor (up our curving staircase or elevator), the light-filled second floor area contains our main gallery, performance area, and reading nook. On the third floor, visitors will find another exhibit gallery, floor puzzles, and musical instruments to play.
